St. Paul UMC Mission Trip

Our trip began July 6 with a wonderful blessing in worship and a mostly pleasant trip to Kentucky. We checked in to our volunteer house and got ready for our project.
Our assignment was working on the new Respite Center in Hagerhill, which is scheduled to open in late August to provide a place for constant-care family members to be taken care of to provide a respite for their caregivers. It will hold up to 40 people at a time, and will be a great asset to the community. We spent the week working on drywall patching, painting, and general work to get the center closer to completion. It was great seeing a difference between arrival and departure, knowing we've made a difference in building a valuable community service.
We had a minor health hiccup on our way home, but we arrived safely back in Christiansburg on July 11.
